James Forsythe's Biography
James Forsythe is currently Professor and Program Head of Drama at Brandon University. A professional actor before entering academe, he has appeared on stages across Canada and continues to work as a theatre artist, most recently he starred as Voltaire in ‘Savage Noble, Noble Savage’ for Theatre Projects Manitoba in addition to several roles written by Dale Lakevold for Root Sky Theatre. His own theatre company Pet Projects premiered ‘Soldier Up!’ last Fall, a dramatic recreation of stories as told by members of the Canadian military and their families about their experiences in Afghanistan. It is scheduled for a second production in Montreal in 2011.
He has been a member of ACTRA and Canadian Actor’s Equity since 1977.
His research interests center on the methodology of actor training. He has been published in a variety of journals ranging from Theatre Research in Canada to alt.theatre. He recently authored an article based on his study of Japanese Kabuki theatre with actors from the National Theatre of Japan. He received his training at the National Voice Intensive and the Universities of Alberta and Victoria.
